The Celtic Saint Brigid’s Cross is an alternative to the original Saint Brigid’s Cross.
Since the sixth century, the St. Brigid’s Cross has been affiliated with the timeless folk traditions of Ireland. Across Ireland, the cross is associated with the arrival of springtime and with the Kildare native, Saint Brigid. As a result, St. Brigid’s day has long been celebrated on February 1st.
An ancient custom of Ireland is that of the hand-crafting of the St. Brigid’s cross at the beginning of Spring. The cross is hand-woven from rushes harvested from the river Shannon which are cut to length to make the cross. For centuries, the cross was placed over the entrance doors of houses and shops in order to bring good health and fortune. Nowadays, the cross is commonly seen in modern homes to act as a focal point, adding to the charm of the interior.
The Celtic Saint Brigid’s Cross is available in three different sizes: 8″, 10.5″ and 12″.
